Meet our professionals

Marco Castaldi

Associate Professor
The City College of New York

Born in New York City, Marco Castaldi received his Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering (magna cum laude) from Manhattan College. He earned his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from UCLA and holds minors in advanced theoretical physics and astrophysics. He currently serves as associate professor of the chemical engineering department at The City College of the City University of New York.

Prior to his academic career, Professor Castaldi worked as manager of the Fuel Processor Component Development for Precision Combustion Inc. in New Haven, Connecticut, overseeing projects totaling $5 million.

Craig Cookson

American Chemistry Council

Craig Cookson is the director of sustainability and recycling for the Plastics Division of the American Chemistry Council. Cookson is responsible for leading the Plastics Division’s strategic national initiatives to increase the recycling of plastics, advance opportunities for energy recovery and promote awareness of plastics’ role in providing sustainable solutions to society’s greatest challenges. Before joining ACC, Cookson was the vice president of Integrated Business Strategies at 720 Strategies, where he designed and implemented strategic grassroots programs for corporate, association and nonprofit clients.

Nat Egosi

RRT Design & Construction

Nathiel Egosi, P.E. is president and chief executive officer of RRT Design & Construction, a leading engineering, equipment and construction services company specializing in solid waste processing and recycling. Since 1989, Mr. Egosi has led the construction of more than 100 material recovery facilities and pioneered the development of advanced technologies for the recycling and solid waste industries. He is widely recognized as an expert in process engineering and equipment design for the recovery of materials. Mr. Egosi is a registered Professional Engineer in 20 states and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic University, New York. Mr. Egosi served as chair of the executive committee of the Solid Waste Processing Division (SWPD) of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He is also a member of SWANA, NRC, NYSAR and NYSASSM.

Johannes Escudero

Executive Director
RNG Coalition

Mr. Johannes D. Escudero is the founder and chief executive officer of the Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas Inc. (RNG Coalition), a national nonprofit that was founded in 2011 to provide public policy advocacy and education on behalf of the renewable natural gas industry in North America. Escudero has more than 15 years of organizational leadership experience, with a diverse background in nonprofit management, business development, higher education, politics, governmental, legislative and regulatory affairs. Prior to founding the RNG Coalition, Escudero served as legislative director in the California State Assembly.

Harvey Gershman

Gershman, Brickner & Bratton, Inc.

Harvey Gershman, GBB president and co-founder, has been active in the solid waste management field as an adviser to government and industry for more than 40 years, specializing in strategic guidance and infrastructure, and services development assistance to solid waste service/system managers and owners. Gershman has managed the preparation of many long-term plans, market studies, cost and independent feasibility analyses, technology reviews, contractor procurements, contracts development and negotiations, and project financing activities for a broad range of recycling, composting, solid waste management, waste-to-energy and district energy projects. These projects have resulted in sustainable, efficient integrated waste management systems accepted by the community and its leadership.

Keith Howard

Lee County Solid Waste Division

Mr. Howard has been in the solid waste industry for over 25 years and is currently the Director for Lee County Florida’s Solid Waste Division. Lee County manages an Integrated Solid Waste Management System managing wastes from Lee and Hendry Counties that includes a WTE facility, Materials Recycling Facility (MRF), C&D Debris Recycling Facility, Compost Facility, Class I, Class III, and Ash Monofill Landfill operations, franchise collections, two Hendry County transfer Stations, Right-of-Way clean-up and Household Chemical Waste disposal. Prior to his work with the County, Mr. Howard’s experience includes both public and private service working for the Municipality of Anchorage, Alaska as well as environmental consulting firms. His previous work included landfill design and permitting, landfill gas collection systems, landfill gas energy projects, air compliance monitoring and permitting, construction administration and design of support facilities for landfills. He has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the University of Alaska Anchorage and is a registered professional engineer in Florida.

Ted Michaels

Energy Recovery Council

Ted Michaels is a partner at AJW Inc. and has 20 years of experience in federal and state government affairs during which time he has served elected officials, trade associations and companies with a focus on energy and environmental issues. Since 2005, Michaels has served as president of the Energy Recovery Council (ERC), the national trade association representing the companies and communities engaged in the waste-to-energy sector. He previously served as staff director of the Senate Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Superfund and Waste Management.

Brian Schellati

Van Dyk Recycling Solutions

Mr. Schellati is the Director of Business Development at Van Dyk Recycling Solutions. He joined them in 2010 with a specific focus on growing new markets. Markets such as mixed waste processing, compost refining and glass recycling. He is currently involved in the MRF design for several projects that utilize many different conversion technologies. With a focus in the power generation industry, Mr. Schellati has over 15 years experience of successful business development for several industrial equipment suppliers. He received an MBA and Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University. Mr. Schellati was born, raised and still resides just outside New York City in Westchester County.

Stephen Simmons, GBB Senior Vice President, is a sustainable development business leader with more than 30 years of experience in the energy and environmental services sectors. He is highly experienced in program and project management, new business development, waste and power marketing, technology evaluation, business financial modeling, profit and loss management, facility design, procurement, and construction having worked with leading international energy operating companies and engineering/consulting firms. Throughout his career, he has helped communities and companies develop programs and projects implementing the 3 E’s of sustainability: ecology, economy, and equity.

Kristin Smith

Waste Today magazine

Kristin Smith is the editor of Construction & Demolition Recycling and Waste Today magazines for the Recycling Today Media Group, based in Valley View, Ohio. In her role as editor, Kristin is responsible for shaping the editorial direction and providing relevant market-driven content for The Recycling Today Media Group’s portfolio of print and online products and conferences. In her five years with the publishing group, Kristin has built strong relationships within the solid waste, waste-to-energy, recycling and demolition industries. She has traveled extensively to visit job sites and facility installations as well as to represent the publishing group at industry events.

Jim Wollschlager

Organix Solutions

Mr. Jim Wollschlager has three decades of management experience as a business leader in the Minneapolis-St. Paul/Twin Cities business community. As chief operating officer for Randy’s Environmental Services, he has overseen acquisitions, acquired permitting and successfully secured municipal and commercial contracts. Most recently, he co-developed the Blue Bag Organics program for Randy’s Environmental Services. In addition, Wollschlager provides leadership and oversight as CEO of Organix Solutions, where he monitors financial performance, assures appropriate controls and accountability are in place for all resources.
